I have only done updates through the Windows update. They have installed drivers and reset Windows fully and nothing worked.

Try installing some other OS and check whether it's recognized there or not?

Yes, I know that. But did you choose or elect to let Windows install OPTIONAL updates? Optional updates are neither required, nor critical and can sometimes lead to the type of issues you are having right with the missing GPU.

I did install Insyde Bios update myself from optional updates. But that was a few days before the problem occurred.

What problem were you trying to solve by the BIOS update? BIOS updates are primarily meant for machines that are exhibiting serious problems. They are not meant to be routine updates since they can cause adverse side effects in machines that are otherwise functioning properly. Please show the link where you got this update. Also please open Control Panel again. Search 'restore point'. Click 'create a restore  point' in the left pane. Is System Protection still on in the box that pops up?

Yes system protection is 'On' the Local Disk (C:) (System). I did not mean to solve anything thought it was just a BIOS update that would be needed.

If System Protection is on, click the SystemRestore button and double check for any automatic updates that have been applied since you ran the BIOS firmware update. There may be a box to checkmark to show more updates if you don't see any. BIOS updates are not the same as device driver updates because they are risky and should be considered irreversible if side effects happen because downgrading the BIOS is even riskier than updating the BIOS. That's why there's a warning in red letters at the top of the BIOS update listings

There is no restore points going that far back anymore since the Tech People did a complet wipe and reinstall of windows.
  • What happens when you change the driver for this device?

I tried to change the driver but the new one also had the exact same problem.
  • Can you send a screenshot of the error that is showing up in the task manager?

When you installed the heatsink, after cleaning and pasting thermal paste, did you verify that the heatsink is perfectly aligned and not touching the motherboard? Also, this user solved a similar issue by updating the bios: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T-series-Laptops/T470p-Yellow-bang-PCIe-Controller-x16/mp/3988828?page=2#3995264

On the Acer website, two video card firmwares are available for your model, see:

I did not remove the heatsink and at all unscrewed the 2 fans and cleaned them seperately. As for the driver I launch it CMD opens and closes immediately.

Try installing ALL the appropriate ACER driver & app updates for this model except BIOS frimware from this link including chipset drivers, etc. The works.

None of it worked since I can't install the NVIDIA driver at all.

I think you should make your own installation stick using Microsoft's  USB media creation tool and re-install it yourself from scratch. It's not that hard to do. If it still comes up missing, then  yes I think whatever happened when you went inside to clean the fans somehow zapped the discrete GPU. I have no idea what caused it but possibly stray ESD if you're sure no mains or battery power was applied to the mainboard when you started cleaning. Doesn't take much ESD to wipe out a chip if not wearing a grounding bracelet.

If the worst case is that ESD zapped the GPU the only option is to replace the whole motherboard or new laptop then ?

Not necessarily. The last ditch attempt to save a mainboard with thru-hole multi-pin GPU is a solder reflow. Either with a heat gun aimed directly at the GPU's solder connections. Or a whole board reflow by baking it on a cookie sheet in a toaster oven pre-heated to 425-450*F for 10mins. The mainboard of course would have to be stripped of all non-solderable components.  Quite a job. But it can be done.

That unfortunately sounds something like I can't do myself or know anyone in my area that specializes in stuff like that. I have contacted Acer to potentianlly send the laptop for a repair see how that will go.
