Help! Aspire A115-31 laptop refuses to turn on

So my niece's Aspire A115-31 laptop that she uses for school and zooming was working fine until it suddenly turned off by itself.

We tried the usual methods to bring back to life a laptop (holding the power button for 1 minute while either the battery or power supply is disconnected) and it did not work at all.

By the way, when we connect the power supply, the lights that indicate that said cord is connected do not light up at all. We bought another power supply thinking that maybe that was the problem. But it doesn't detect it either.

So we took it to local technicians at best buy (where the laptop was purchased many moons ago - yes, it's out of warranty) and they didn't had anyone available that knew how to fix it.

So what do you recommend? What are my options. My niece says that she didn't backed up some work she had on the laptop and wants to see if it's possible to at last retrieve it.

There is a 3rd party company that Acer recommends as a possible way to fix it. Should I try that?

Thank you.

Sorry to hear that your Acer product has problems, the power supply ON/OFF issues are not related to the HDD as with a HDD the laptop should at least power on. With a battery issue it could be that the battery is not rechargeable and needs replacing hence and why the laptop does not power on. If you are computer savvy? Try taking the battery out and running this laptop on the adaptor only without a battery and see if the laptop powers on? Also and with power issues, your nice hasn't lost any data so don't worry.

If all the above don't work then its probably either a side DC/plug and problem that the plug shorts issue and shorts out the adaptor to not charge (as the adaptor has a safety switch that turns it off if there is a shortage or an internal power circuitry issue) all this needs analysing by an experienced tech that knows and has the tools to diagnose the exact problem(s) and fix it. Also and with the charger adaptor, have you tried both adaptors on another laptop if the charger adaptor work? As if that is the case then its even more of a reason that you have an internal circuity power related component short problem(s) that need fixing and changing as attaching an adaptor does nothing.

Yes, we tried running the laptop with the battery disconnected and with the power supply connected. This after pressing the power button for 1 minute. It didn't work. Nothing turned on.

The technician that inspected the laptop didn't see anything wrong with the power supply port. However, he never actually inspected it closely. He just gave it a quick look and placed a tool inside the port and told me that it seemed to be in working order.

However, I really need an experienced technician because the ones at Best Buy told me that the laptop was missing parts inside. Since they didn't see a physical hard drive or ram.

Well, they obviously didn't know that the laptop uses an embedded eMMc storage attached to the motherboard. So yeah... I think I need someone that knows more about how to fix these type of laptops.

Unfortunately I don't have any device that works with these power adapters to test them out. But I find it strange that both might be busted. The last one I bought from Amazon.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi @Gerdez,

Did you try to charge it with different charger.

DVM should show 19-21VDC on the charger plug. A shorted battery could keep the PC from turning on & make the PS feel hot. Should run with the battery removed entirely and just the charger connected. I prefer a 19vdc 65W charger myself.
