I have a 8th gen I5 8400 with a GT1030 GPU and a 300w power suppy.
I'm planning to upgrade the GPU to a rx 6600 and a higher power supply.
Will it work? please let me know. Its for my work on renderings and animations. Thank You

With your current GT-1030 that needs a PSU of 200W and has a bus interface of PCIe 3.0 x4 you have to consider a few things before you can upgraded with a more powerful card, as your PSU of 300W on your TC-860 needs to be upgrade also. In my opinion the best upgrade for you is to the GTX 16 series cards that is the successor card to the GT1030 but, you need to upgrade the PSU first as with an OEM 300W PSU these 16 series cards will not be suitable as they need 300W minimum PSU and they are also a bigger card so you will have to measure the size of your area inside your case as these new cards are allot longer. For example the GT1030 is 145mm long x 69mm wide and a card like the GTX1660Ti is 229mm long x 111mm wide.

In my opinion only, so take it for what it is and what you want to do? I would upgrade to a card like the GTX1660Ti that will give you about 400% more performance than your current GT-1030 and will handle most of the new games around. also I would upgrade your OEM PSU to at least a 550W new PSU which should give you room for other power needs on your PC. All this is up to and how much you want to spend on a new GPU card as these things are not cheap as a GTX1660Ti is about USD $450 new plus a Corsair RM550X 550W is USD $135 so it adds up and you are talking like USD $585 up.

First of all Thank you Steven for helping me out.

The reason I'm guided to the RX 6600 is because it has a higher benchmark and bigger memory (RX 6600 benchmark 13,732 ,8gb memory- GTX 1660 Ti benchmark at 11,792) also the size is not that big(193(L)x120.05(W)x40.05(H)mm). its the (RX 6600 sapphire pulse) also its said that it required only a 450W power supply.

btw I base my benchmark at these websites

The price is not that far comparing it with the GTX 1660Ti(in the PH both price range about $450 to $480 USD "that is also my budget") add power supply of 450W to 550W price range from $40-$80USD also depends on the frequency.

The thing that I don't like on the GTX 1660Ti and other 1660's is their memories that have only 6gb. I am attracted more on that 8gb GPU memory because one of the programs that I'll be using is the "Lumion" Arch rendering app and it required a bigger GPU memory(some 12gb or more). It is never intended for gaming but more on work related.

So to simplify things. Is it ok that I would go for the RX 6600 8gb with 550 PSU? or the GTX1660Ti 6gbwith 550W PSU?

I can see some safer build going for the GTX 1660 but I wanted to maximize a certain program (Lumion) so that I can work and use it more efficient. (here in our place for some reason nobody wants to touch any ACER Aspire desktop model when it comes to upgrading (even the distributors))

Again Thank you for the info that you provided and have a nice day
