    HI folks,

I’m trying to fix my son’s Aspire laptop E5-571-360C.

As per the OP here, the blue light comes on but nothing else. Screen stays black.

I think I’ve narrowed it down to a corrupted BIOS likely caused by a weak CMOS battery (showing 1.6v).

    Stuff I've tried:

Replaced the CMOS battery (not without challenge as it was of the smaller, soldered in type)

I’ve tried to flash the BIOS using the above method, but hit a few snags with that, the most major being that the update files (tried em all!) don’t contain any .FD file. Well, except one – the most recent BIOS_Acer_1.32_Windows.

Sooooo, I copied the .FD file from there, pasted it into the USB root with everything else from the unpacked 1.11 version and renamed it  Z5WAHx64.fd as per the success story above.

ON attempting to boot I’m now just getting 3 long beeps and a shutdown

    HELPPP!!

Try pressing FN+F6 to try to toggle the screen on. If no joy, try HDMI out to a TV to try to toggle its screen on with the FN+F5 combo.

Many thanks for your input JackE.
I've tried both with no joy.
    Any other ideas?

Any idea why the BIOS files contain no .FD file?
    Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks again
