Modern computers really assume there will be power available at all times. There shouldn't be anything specific that would go wrong by removing power completely, but it may be safer to just leave the switch on and shut down only the computer and monitor.

Does anyone remember the manufacturer and exact model of this problematic 500W PSU? I believe these little boxes have PSUs from two manufacturers, Lite-On and something else. My unit had the latter, but I just can't remember what it was.

If someone could be so kind and post a pic of the PSU label/sticker with model number etc., I'd appreciate it!
  • @GotBanned O modelo po3-620 utiliza essas power supplys:
    PSU LITE-ON PA-4501-1AC 500W ACTIVE PFC 100-127V/200-240V ATX 100-127V/220V-240V, SINGLE-RAIL DESIGN, BLACK DC.5001B.00A
    PSU CHICONY POWER D19-500P1A 500W ACTIVE PFC 100-120V/200-240V 2 ATX 100-127V/ 220V-240V, SINGLE-RAIL DESIGN DC.5001H.002

Thank you very much! Chicony is the one I know that has these issues. Thanks again!

I just bought my last week and noticed the issue today, I wonder if anyone on this thread kept their unit!

Do you know if your PSU made by Chicony? If you do, maybe you can ask Acer to replace it with Lite-On and the "feature" goes away?

I'm pretty sure of the fact that I have one of the Lite-On PSUs (couldn't read the label on the PSU itself, but it had Lite-On marking on one of the components inside the PSU). Despite this, it's still making a buzzing/ticking noise.
  • @McJesus Does the same problem occur when changing the power cord and when plugging the computer into another electrical outlet?

    Oh great... not!

Looks like both PSU manufacturers have similar problems with their units.  :/ If only Chicony had problems the fix would have been soooo easy.

I've tried both, but to no avail. I've even come as far as RMAing it back to Acer Czech Republic 2 times. The first time, they changed out the PSU for a new one, the issue sadly persisted (actually, I believe the "ticking" got faster since they sent it back). I naturally sent it back to them and reported that it fixed nothing. It came back after 2 weeks with the report stating it was ok for the PSU to do it due to its design.

^ Forgot to mention in my previous post, but I have no idea which manufacturer made the first PSU, sadly.

At least on the Chicony I had, all the info was towards the motherboard. The only way to see any indication of the manufacturer was to remove the PSU (four screws).

I'm not an engineer. But is the power supply not undersized and not providing adequate power? Some versions of the PO3-620 come with an rtx2070 and require a power supply of at least 550w, see:

Mine came with RTX 3070, which according to some recommendations online require a 650W PSU. As we all know, Chicony was 500W.

Anyway, the new standard PSU used in these models (ATX12VO) is different than what we are used to. My take is that ATX12VO is supposed to be more efficient. If so, old and new PSUs can't be compared directly.

I'd be really really really surprised, if Acer under-specced the PSU just to save few bucks per sold unit. I had no problem using the PC or running benches on it.

Yes, Acer did a bunch of testing to verify where the power really needed to be. The older ATX supplies had more inefficiency with generating all the other voltages and that was taken into account with NVIDIAs power specs. Since the ATX12VO supplies have all the power in the one voltage, and that's the voltage that the GPU needs, they are good to go with the 500W supply and 3070.

Hi @GotBanned , does your PC has the same PSU buzzing noise as well? How long have you had your pc for?

    Hi there!

Unfortunately(?) I don't have it anymore. I bought the PC in order to cannibalize the RTX 3070 card. From the leftovers and GTX 970 I build a gaming PC to my friend's kids. Long story short, my friend ruined the motherboard (ripped the GPU slot out of the board!) and I had to get him a normal motherboard, PSU and case.

Anyway, I had this PC for few weeks and it had this annoying buzzing "feature" and also some crackling. :(
