My SF314-52-517Z is no longer detecting the SSD

My laptop crashed and now it either boots to a screen that says no bootable drive or if I boot it in BIOS mode, the InsydeH2o setup utility Rev. 5.0 displays no HDDs. The system BIOS version is V1.08. What are the odds that my SSD is recoverable? Assuming it's bricked, can I just replace the SSD and battery and carry on with this laptop or does it make more sense to buy a new one?

  • Is the ssd showing up in the bios information tab?

Your SF314-52-517Z comes with a 256GB SSD in the M.2 slot, IIRC. That's good, the versions with an eMMC drive are more prone to failure than the ones with M.2 drives. There are a couple of things that might be going on. The drive might be failing or the data on the drive might be corrupted. As suggested going into the BIOS might let you see if the drive is being recognized at all. It should show up on the Information tab as HDD0. Take a picture for us of that page blanking out your serial number. That will show us what's installed. The likely next step will be to use a Windows install flash disk to boot into the repair environment where we'll use DISKPART to see if the correct partitions are there, and if the data on the partitions looks good. Take pictures of the LIST DISK, LIST VOL and LIST PART (after a SEL DESK #) info and show us that as well. If the drive is good then we can likely recover your data, if the drive is bad we'll just start over with a new drive.

Yeah, like I said, no HDDs are displayed here
  • I advise disconnecting the battery and the ssd:

Then connect the ssd and battery again, in that order!

Give that suggestion a try before buying a drive to replace the old one, but plan on there being a good chance you will have to replace it after we've gone through the testing procedures.
