Hello,
I would like to know if my laptop is compatible with M.2 NVME and wich technology and capacity.
Gen 3x4 or only Gen 3x2 ?
Maximum 256 Go or more ?
As asked in many other discussions in the community, I checked my PCIe Root Ports but I don't know which one is relevant.
Can someone explain it to me ?
Here are the specs :
Root Port 1 :
Version: 3.0
Maximum Link Width: 4x
Current Link Width: 4x
Root Port 9 :
Version: 3.0
Maximum Link Width: 2x
Current Link Width: Not negotiated
Root Port 11 :
Version: 3.0
Maximum Link Width: 1x
Current Link Width: 1x
Root Port 12 :
Version: 3.0
Maximum Link Width: 1x
Current Link Width: 1x
Regards.

Yes, you can use M.2 NVMe SSD, your Root Port 9 has a maximum link width of 2x, so it will run at half the speed advertised by the manufacturers.1

You can use NVMe SSD but please check the tlink below to find a PCI Express Root Port with a Maximum Link width of either 2x or 4x, you can find out using HWiNFO64 Please check on the below link

@Jack22 Thank you fort your quick answer.
I saw the topic in your message and I used HWiNFO64 to write the information in my first message.
But as I wrote :
in the four PCI Express Root Ports listed by HWiNFO64, one has a Maximum Link width of 4x, one of 2x and one of 1x.
How can I know which one is relevant for my SSD ?
And I still have my other questions :
is a Gen3x4 SSD compatible with a 2x motherboard ?
I heard of capacity limitation of 256 Go ? Is is real ?

OK, thank you !
And last question, Can a M.2 NVMe SSD be bootable with this laptop ? Or it must be only a secondary drive ?
I plan to use only this drive ...

Thank you fro your answer !
But strangely, I received an answer from Acer support, and they just said that NVMe SSD is not compatible with my laptop ...
I don't understand why.0 -
No problem, sorry,I also don't know the answer.0

HWiNFO program doesn't seems to be useful for this model, you can use a M.2 NVMe SSD.

I found following userbenchmarks with i3 6006u. Can u please check them once and tell whether it means nvme can run on 6006u a315-51 also? Or should I play safe and buy sata m.2 which will anyways run.

Also not really sure why some other community trailblazers are saying in this forum that the service guide of a315-51 says m.2 slot supports sata only. If users benchmarks says nvme is tried by quite some people and also hwinfo shows a pcie x4 bus, i think ideally nvme should run on a315-51-356p.0 -
