Hi, the fan on my acer spin 5 has developed an annoying rubbing sound, and I can't seem to get rid of it. It tends to happen when the laptop is being moves around. I am very disappointed as I only purchased the product 4 months ago, and it has been developing small issues ever since. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've got the 10th gen version of that model and have heard the same sound occasionally. It acts like that mostly when I place the laptop on another that's closed, and ties to where the magnets are on the other system. I think the fan just has a bit of slop in it, and when the magnets pull is slightly crooked it develops the rattle. You can also hear it when there's some dust buildup on the fan, due to the imbalance...

Interesting, mine just does it when it's being tilted at an angle, and occasionally when placed flat. The weirdest part is that the sound disappears when the fun runs faster. I have a feeling the mount isn't particularly strong, so it's brushing against the fan housing. But then again, I could be very wrong.

The fan is very, very thin in order to help keep the whole laptop as thin as possible. I don't think there is enough structure to really get it to hold completely stable. It doesn't seem to do any harm, and as you say when the system heats up so the fan is spun faster it goes away (likely due to the gyroscopic forces).

Ah That would make sense. Do you know if I could get a replacement fan or something sent to me instead, I need the laptop for UNI and don't mind having a shot at replacing it myself.

They typically do not want to send just the part, especially one that is as deep into the machine as this is. Too easy for an end used to muck something up while doing the replacement. Any of the authorized service centers can do the replacement without affecting the rest of your warranty. Other service centers may or may not affect the warranty when they do the work.
