Hello everyone!
Im looking into buying a new laptop and ive come across this laptop, acer aspire 5 515-44-R4XX( 15.6" ryzen 5 4500U 512GB SSD 8GB of RAM 3200MHz , 4GB soldered on the board and 4GB in a socket). Ive searched all over the internet and i still couldnt find answers to this question:"Since this laptop has 8GB of RAM, split into 4GB soldered on the board and 4GB in a socket, does it have dual channel memory?". ive looked at reviews on the internet that say that not having dual channel memory limits the performance of the laptop and so i wanted to check before buying if this one does have it. ive looked at the other variant aswell, the Aspire 5 A515-44-R2MB NX.HW3EX.003 which has the same specs but the 8GB of ram is soldered in the board, leaving an empty socket for upgrades. Do both of them have dual channel memory?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, but very little noticeable difference between dual channel and single channel RAM performancc.

do all of the A515-44 series laptop have dual channel memory? as in, if it has 8GB soldered like the R2MB, if i add another stick of 8GB it will then have dual channel? Or does it have it by default from its 8GB of integrated RAM?

Yes in the US. Other regions may sell similar models with no soldered RAM and a single 8GB replaceable RAM module. The maximum benefit comes with a matched pair of sodimms.  Since a matched pair isn't possible with one soldered RAM socket and one replaceable RAM socket, the benefit would not be as great. I doubt a noticeable difference.

im so confused right now. so, what ur saying is that having soldered RAM into the board makes dual channel not possible because there arent 2 RAM modules of the same kind in the laptop? or you meant that having soldered ram and a separate module in a socket enables dual channel but not as effective as having 2 RAM modules of the same kind? from what i found on the internet, the difference between single channel and dual channel ram in these types of processors is around 15% performance atleast, and it is noticeable in games due to having atleast 15-25 lower fps while in single channel, which is why im so interested in a laptop with dual channel. so, in conclusion, the acer variant r4xx with 4GB soldered and 4GB in a socket has dual channel memory or not? im not that great with laptops :anguished: thx for the responses tho!  :p

Yes. A matched pair is best  An UNmatched pair is 2nd best. Don't fret, be confused, or dwell over dual vs single channel too much. Because laptop speed depends on many factors besides this in the real world. Such as--- HDD/SSD speed---CPU speed---GPU speed---buss speed. RAM is only one small component of total laptop speed. Many single channel mainboards can outperform many dual channel main boards because their other speed factors are superior.
