Hello,
I have a new Swift 3x (with Intel i5, SF-314-510G) and would like to charge it via a USB-C cable on a monitor (BenQ PD2705Q, offers max. 65W with 20V/3.25A). According to the specification, the notebook has Thunderbolt 4 and thus "Power Delivery" should be possible. The "Thunderbolt lightning symbol" is also present next to the socket. Tech support also said that the model should be able to do PD.

The transfer of screen signal and LAN via USB-C also works without problems, only the notebook is not charging. The cable used is rated up to 100W. I should be able to rule out a problem with the cable or monitor, since a Dell Latitude 7490 can be charged via USB-C on the monitor without any problems.

Tech support can't really help. I would have to send the device in. However, since it is brand new, I think a hardware defect is unlikely.

Are there any experiences or recommendations for the described problem? BTW, Bios version is 1.04 and according to tech support so OK.

Thank you very much.

As far as I can tell from the spec on your system, the Thunderbolt port is data only, no mention of charging:

Hi, thanks for your comment, but according to the Acer Website (https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/series/swift3x) and the Acer Tech Support the model should offer also Power Delivery via USB-C/Thunderbolt port.

Ah, I see that. Typically they call it out in the service guide as well, but apparently not in this case. Do you have access to another charger for testing?

Well, I now tried it with a separate 65W charger (Anker) using the same cable and the laptop gets charged. With the monitor I also tried another cable, still no success.

So either it is due to
my particular combination monitor - notebook (while a Dell 7490 works fine with the monitor)
or the USB-C port on the notebook can not handle simultaneously data, video AND charging.

BTW: In the meantime I updated the BIOS to the most recent version (and switched to Windows 11), but the charging issue is still there.

If you have the tools you could check what voltage the monitor is providing on that port. The laptop might require 20V...

Unfortunately I do not have the tools to verify the voltage, but according to the monitors manual it provides 20V/3.25A.

"Interesting" new observation: I connected the laptop again to the monitor via another USB-C cable specified for 100W PD (but which does NOT support DP Alt-Mode, i.e. does not transfer a video signal), and the laptop gets charged by the monitor. So to summarize: It does NOT charge with two different USB-C cables supporting PD and DP Alt-Mode (while data transfer and video signal works fine), and it DOES charge with another USB-C cable supporting only PD, but no DP Alt-Mode.
So it is either a cable issue (not having found a USB-C cable with PD and DP Alt-Mode that works for this combination of Laptop and Monitor) OR the laptop can't use PD and DP Alt-Mode in parallel. Strange...
