Hi folks,

Chromebook Spin 713 has stopped charging after 1 year and 2 months. Of course warranty is 1 year only (well done Acer). States 1% calculating and doesn't move.
Charger and USB cable are fine.
Any idea what can be tried before sending it for repairs? I tried holding power button for 15 sec, but doesn't do anything.

Customer service is already asking for cash to investigate the fault and a blank cheque for whatever they find when it shouldnt freaking fail so soon after warranty period.

Can you advise how to do hard reset. Spin 713 config seems different from Google instruction on random chrombooks

Which Spin 713 model do you have? It should be something like CP713-xxx-xxxx for the Chromebook...

    Hi @BoSpin713,

Are you getting any light indication when charger is connected.

Firstly, does your laptop function when the charge is on 1%%, what I mean by this is this, if you run your laptop on its battery at 1% does the laptop operate and/or warn you of “Low Battery” power when its not plugged in? As this is a common fault with especially a replaced none OEM battery, yes I know that your battery is the original but it could have the same symptoms!

So and what you should do is to use/work your laptop until it runs out of battery power until it turns OFF and its inoperable and then fully charge it and also you should look and doing a “Calibrate Your Laptop Battery” so that you revive the battery, otherwise and if all this does not work then, you need to replace your battery with a new OEM Battery, which is the “PANASONIC AP15O Polymer 3S1P PANASONIC 3 cell 4670mAh Main COMMON (with FW update for google) – Acer part #: KT.00305.003”

Btw, this is also a windows fault and mainly happens with cheap none OEM batteries (that are bought online) and I do the above and it revitalises the battery completely and after I do the above, the battery icon at the bottom right taskbar in windows always shows that the battery is charged 100%.

OK, your CP713-2W-393J uses the USB-C port for charging from a 45W supply and specs say either side will work. Do both sides act the same? If not we might be looking at a hardware issue with one of those ports. If they both act the same then try plugging a different device in, like a flash drive, to see if they are working as a USB port. I don't know of any ChromeOS issues that could affect the charging, normally when we see something like this it's the charger itself that's at fault. Your model doesn't have a power indicator but it doesn't have the battery indicator light on or next to the power button. It should be lit amber when the charger is plugged in and lit blue when fully charged. If it's amber and flashing that's an indication of a detected issue with the battery. There is a cable that runs between the motherboard and a daughter card on the right side, but if it were having issues I'd expect all ports on that side to act up.

Both ports don't charge. Solid Amber light showing when charger is connected. Laptop dead now, so can't turn on anymore to test flash drive.
But charger does charge when plugged to phone, so definetly laptop issue.

Laptop held at 1% for awhile but now non responsive. No longer turns on.
As you say, this is original OEM battery, so surprising and disappointing really.
I look at buying battery reference you gave. Very helpful.
I crack laptop open to see first if I can do myself.
    Thx

The charger could easily charge a phone and not the laptop. If it were putting out (for example) 15W instead of 45W it would either not charge at all or perhaps maintain a charge without raising it.

I had the exact same issue 2 months after purchasing new. I only used the charger that came with it too.  Acer 'repaired' it claiming a faulty battery and screen and replaced them both.  6 weeks later the same fault happened again.

I'd asked them to consider replacing as it seems they can't repair the issue. I don't want this issue to continue let alone continue past the warranty, however they appear to be repairing and haven't answered my question over replacement.

What can I do if they continue to just continue to attempt repair? starting to pull my hair out with this!!!

Warranty is different for each locale, so we can't really even guess as to what's possible in each different country. Typically they don't replace the machine, they repair it.

I have the Spin 713, and this problem occurred with mine after 9 months. Acer repaired it FOC with "a new battery", and now, 4 months later it has happened again. I asked them to repair it again, noting that the new battery fitted on the last repair should have a 12 month warranty itself, but they disagreed and said the warranty only runs for as long as the original. This makes no sense to me, because obviously Acer have bought the battery in from their supplier, who would naturally provide them with a 12 month warranty on it, so if the new battery has failed it is no skin off Acer's nose to claim a freebie back off their battery supplier again. (Which I am sure they would do, but make me pay for it as well - thus winning from both sides: 100% profit (I can only think of one other activity that generates 100% profit and it isn't legal...))

As such, they want to charge £55 to collect it, and then whatever it costs to fix it. I checked with them and the new battery would be £77. But, will it keep happening?! I have never had a problem like this before in the 20 past years of using laptops, so I think there must be something fundamentally wrong with the design on this model. Which is a shame, because otherwise it is a great laptop. I'm going to take the lid off and see how hard it is to swap the battery for a new one.

@Cupdecha rather than camping out on this thread from last fall, could you open a new one using the Ask a Question button? Include your full model number (CP713-xxx-xxxx), what you are seeing and what you have tried so far.

I purchased 4 of these 713 Chromebooks for kids / grandkids during lockdown for home schooling etc. now pretty much just pay past 12 months laptop died looks like battery issue, as amber light shows but laptop won't now power up, if press refresh and power, get a brief blue light on button then back to solid amber. I'm dreading that I'll end up with £2500 with of paper weights!! .. this seems to be a common occurrence with the Chromebooks, which is a shame as their nice Chromebooks, and decently specked.i purchased 4 of these as they were said to be mill spec 🤔🙄, so I've got one that's not working at all, and another where it only charges through one USBC port! all 4 Chromebooks are just past 12 months old !!

*ALL* - I had the SAME problem as everyone above.  I bought a new battery and a new charging brick - neither made a difference.  I DID however find out that I could remove the back of the 713, disconnect the battery, then I could plug in and boot the device.... i could then (while powered on) plug in the battery and it would charge).  HOWEVER, it didn't appear to stay charged or if its power dropped down, I couldn't recharge it.  Clearly this is an issue that Acer is not addressing. (IMHO).
