my BIOS has frozen completely. What i mean by this is that I am unable to change any setting except HDD password and User password but if I do no changes are put in place. The option to restore settings to default in BIOS is greyed out meaning I can not use it. Would anybody have a solution for me if so please do let me know

( 1) Unzip the BIOS zipfile download.
( 2) Run the executable EXE file.
( 3) Keep error message box open.
    ( 4) Then open FileExplore.
    ( 5) Search C:\users folder and subfolders for a 'H2O*.EXE' file.
( 6) Copy entire subfolder with the H2O*.EXE file to some other place on the HDD or SSD. Don't forget where you put this copied folder.
( 7) Close error message box in step ( 3).
    ( 8) Open copied folder from step ( 6)
( 9) Open initialization INI file with notepad.
    (10) Edit format section from XN.NN to XN.DD.
    (11) Save INI file
    (12) Run the executable H2O*.EXE

    (1) Try setting and saving a supervisor password in the BIOS SECURITY tab. Then re-enter the BIOS with the supervisor password.
    (2) Please state if you have a desktop, laptop or tablet and the full ACER model number.

If you have access to the BIOS menu, please post a phone photo of the BIOS Information & Security tabs if possible.

Please also post phone photo of BIOS INFORMATION & BOOT tabs. Did you disable secure boot in BOOT tab?

I've asked to see a phone photo of the BIOS Information tab but  haven't seen it yet.  If you can't post it for some reason, perhaps you could reveal your full ACER model number. When you first notice the BIOS was frozen?  Because the BIOS appears to have been corrupted for some reason. Did this happen suddenly for no apparent reason?

my mistake, the first time my bios had been frozen was a couple months ago when i installed checkm8 (ios jailbreak) which is a legitimate method to jailbreak however something must’ve happened for this to occur. i didn’t do anything major from what i remember

    (1) Did you try to install Win11 before or after checkm8? The E5 series is currently incompatible with Win11. The failed install could've also corrupted the BIOS.

    (2) Where or which website did you download checkm8? It could've had rootkit  malware.

    (3) How did you recover Win10 from the Win11 installation failure ?

1.) before i had windows 11, i was on windows 10 and whilst i was on windows 10 my bios was still frozen so i used checkm8 on windows 10. i did reinstall windows 11 after checkm8.

2.)i used checkm8 off of 3utools which is known to be pretty legitimate

3.)i saved some of my previous files from windows 10 to put on windows 11 (some transferred others didnt)

windows 11 has been pretty fine as far as I've been using it though i can downgrade if it would be the better thing to do.
would you have any steps i should follow to be able to fix this

As mentioned earlier, this model is not on the ACER Win11 compatiblity list. Fixing a corrupted BIOS is risky enough cuz there's a fair chance of bricking the machine even under Win10. Win11 even riskier.

You  can download & unzip a fresh copy of the BIOS Windows executable from this link. To overwrite the corrupt BIOS, a special  sequence of steps to run the executable is necessary. This adds further risk.

If it was mine, I try to get it back to Win10 before attempting to overwrite the BIOS. But it's not mine, so it's your decision on if you want to try to overwrite it from Win11 or Win10

  • This problem can also occur when user enters some unlock code, forgetting the serial or password entered in setsupervisorpassword. Before downgrading the bios, I would try to disconnect the lition battery, the rtc battery, and leave the computer off for half an hour, to see if it restores the default bios settings.
