Hi Everyone,

Before you all tell me to bore off because of my very aged machine, I'm running a little project with my son upgrading a donor desktop machine that his Nan has given him for Xmas. It's an Acer Aspire X3200, S/N 983FM75UCP. It has a DA078L M/B, 3GB RAM. I've already added a 450GB SSD and installed windows 10. I've fixed the coprocessor driver issue and I will install 4gb RAM.

What I want to know is what is the fastest CPU that the M/B will support? I can't seem to find a definitive answer on this. It currently has a AMD Phenom 8450 Triple Core Processor 2.1GHz - AM2. I know I will never get this machine to be fast (although you would be amazed at how quickly it boots up due to the SSD) but that's not the point - it's just a learning exercise for him and we want to get the max possible out of the machine without chucking it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Here is the list:
    Processor:
    • AMD Athlon LE-1600/1620/1640 processor
    • AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core BE-2300/2350/2400 or 4200+/4400+/4800+/5000+/5200+/5600+ processor
    • AMD Phenom X3 Triple-Core 8400/8450/8600/8650 processor
    • AMD Phenom X4 Quad-Core 9100e/9150e/9500/9550/9600/9650 processor
    • AMD Sempron LE-1250/1300 or 2100 processor
I wouldn't count on newer ones working correctly.
