I just bought myself a new laptop (Aspire 5 A514-54-56KX) for school purposes, the computer is preloaded with windows 11. I have a second monitor to have articles and such on while writing, this monitor has worked perfectly with my previous computer, so there is nothing wrong with connection there.
While plugging it in windows prompts that the HDMI has been plugged in, and the no signal on the monitor also goes away, signaling that something is making connection, but there is only a black screen on the monitor. It is worth noting the monitor itself does not have a HDMI input and i use a DVI-HDMI adapter.
I have tried updating every driver and no luck. I have also tried different methods of connecting to the monitor and that has also failed.
What should i do?

Do you have an hdmi-in TV set to test the laptop's HDMI output? You may need an HDMI-2-DVI signal converter. Not the same as a passive HDMi-2-DVI connector adapter.

I got a signal when connecting to a TV with just a HDMI cable so the input on the computer works.
The adapter is just a passive one yes, in the form of a DVI male to HDMI female, which is directly connected to the monitor. The monitor only supports DVI and display port so i will try to get a hold of a dvi to hdmi cable and try that. I just think of it as strange when my old computer works fine with the setup but a newer one doesnt.

Yes, but I have no idea what the signal output on the old computer's HDMI port (it could be mixed) or the input signal requirements on the external monitor. If you could reveal what brands/models of the old  computer and monitor are, I might be able to help more.

Other than that, I suggest that if you have a TV with a normal HDMI input connector, then you try to see if the new ACER will give the TV a normal HDMI output using a standard HDMI-to-HDMI cable available at places like HomeDepot or Lowes..
