It should. Right click speaker icon in the tray. Click open sound settings. Click sound control panel in right pane. Do you see the buds listed under playback tab? If not, are they turned on?

earbuds are not shown in the playback or output device in sound settings. only the internal speakers are shown. earbuds are on.

Click the BlueTooth icon in the right tray. Click show BlueTooth devices. Is BlueTooth turned on? If yes, do the buds show up on the page? If not, click add a BlueTooth or other device near the top of the page. Click BT. Make  sure buds are still on. Sometimes, to save the puny batteries that are in many buds, they only stay on for a few seconds if they don't detect another BT device actually looking for them

What do you mean this? The BT drivers for the proprietary ACER mainboard are NOT generic Microsoft drivers despite what many experts still might claim. Go to this link and try either the Intel or Atheros BT drivers. Check DeviceManager network adapters folder to see which Wifi-BT card you have installed.

When I first tried to get the earbuds working, the laptop was loaded with the Intel drivers. Showed Intel in the device manager. The earbuds would pair but not connect. When I loaded the acer athreros drivers, the device manager showed atheros. The earbuds would pair but not connect.

Open Device Manager. If no red or yellow warnings, please open both the Bluetooth and Network adapters folders and post a screenshot if possible.

By defintiion, if they're paired, they're connected. Something's missing here. Like an error message. What kind of error message are you getting? There may be a hex code associated with it. Also, it might be helpful to reveal the buds' brand/model as well as your wife's Win10 machine.

Click the BlueTooth icon in the right tray again. Click show BlueTooth devices. If BT is on and buds are displayed, Click more BT options in the right pane. Make sure discovery box is checked. Then try them again.
