What model DVD±RW drive do I need for the Travelmate P653-M-9889 notebook?

I acquired a used Travelmate P653-M-9889 notebook. The DVD±RW drive did not work and when I ejected it from the unit I discovered that the SATA connection for the drive was missing. I ordered another drive thinking it would be an easy fix but the drive doesn’t even make contact with the SATA connector on the motherboard. Is there a specific model number DVD±RW for this laptop?

If you have no luck finding it via Google, contact Acer support for your locale and they should be able to put you in contact with a vendor.

I don’t know if you are talking about the motherboard DVD SATA/Power plug? But and if you are talking about the motherboard SATA/Power plug (see caption below) then that DVD SATA/Power plug is part of the motherboard and it’s soldered onto the board, this is not a part that is listed by Acer. You will have to either replace the motherboard or get an experienced technician that has a donor board and specialty tools to be able to resolder this plug back onto your motherboard. I also advise you that this needs speciality tools for mico soldering so don’t attempt to do this yourself as you will ruin the motherboard.

The connections on the motherboard are fine it was the connection on the DVD±RW drive that was broken/missing. Sorry for the confusion.

Well then send it backas that is a faulty product as the DVD drive SATA/Power plug should be 100% and should connect to the motherboard. Anyway, I've give you the Acer OEM DVD and part number so get those which is a Panasonic UJ8A2 DVD unit which should be very cheap like US $15.00.

I was able to purchase the drive from Newegg. Thank you again for the help.

I received the KU.00807.076 drive this afternoon and went to install and it still doesn't work.  It appears that there is also an adapter that allows connection to the motherboard. This is how it should look with adapter installed.

The black frame seems to support the adapter for the SATA communications connector.  The drive I received is the image below.

Is there a part number for this adapter?

Two parts, the plastic holder is 42.V4B01.005 and the connector adapter is 6M.V7EN1.001. Is your bezel correct? If not the part number for it is 42.V4B01.004.

I have the plastic holder and the bezel. I tried searching for the connector adapter online without any success.
Do you have any idea where I could find this part? It’s probably as rare as hen’s teeth by now.
