Hi guys,

Apologies if this has been asked already, i have tried finding it but not had much luck. So if anyone can help id really appreciate it.

I have a predator orion 3000 po3-620 with the standard 512gb NVMe ssd. I have also bout a WD Black 1TB SN850 Gen 4 NVMe ssd as an upgrade. my thinking was more space and very fast.

my question is, whats the easiest way to use the new drive? swap or add, and how to go about it?? im new to PC's so need all the help I can get.

thanks in advance.

  • You need to remove the offboard video card:

    Then remove the old ssd:

  • Hi,
You have only a single M.2 SSD slot and you have to replace current SSD with the new SSD, your motherboard supports only a PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSD, so the Gen4 SSD will work at Gen 3 speeds.

Thanks guys. Not really sure how to transfer the windows bios etc, so is there a more simple way to use the card? For example a sad enclosure with usb3? Will that still give me a fast transfer of stored games etc?

You'll need an external enclosure and cloning software to make a perfect copy of your current OS drive. BIOS is not saved on the M.2 drive, so you don't need to worry about that. Like mentioned above, your PC supports PCIE 3.0 speeds => you can save a few bucks here.

Even easier would be if you kept using your M.2 drive as OS and software drive and getting an SSD 2,5" SATA drive for games and storage. The difference in game loading times between M.2 nvme and SSD SATA drives is only few seconds as Youtube comparison videos show. Besides, SATA SSDs cost less per Gb.

I remember seeing few post about adding an SATA SSD on this forum. You may need to find a power cable for the drive, if it wasn't included already though.

Please tell us where we can download that PDF showing how we upgrade our pc.

(The name of it is generic, so we got no chance to google it even)

    Merry Christmas.

I can't edit my post, so I have to comment on it.

I found the official PDF from Acer.com with the help of google and searching hard.

    Acer.com support page:

If you can't find the PDF link hidden under "Drivers & Documents" -> Documents(4):

Here is an image showing the difference.

    Huge.

I guess advantage (1) is it will never be pressured 100% and therefore will live a long and happy life.
    (2) You won't have heat problems.

    - I'm posting because I'm considering upgrading to the same SSD.

It won't let me edit my own post now....

    (3) It can maybe be used on your next PC - Its real-life benchmark is top1/top2 versus all the other top SSD's.

I guess you can't edit your post after like 10 minutes after posting it lol. (even if you start writing before the 10 or 15 min mark)

    (3) It can maybe be used on your next PC - Its real-life benchmark is top1/top2 versus all the other top SSD's.
    - I could imagine throwing it into my Laptop if I won't re-use it on my next PC.
    - If you can buy some kind of "enclosure"  "docking-station" for it. You can re-use it as an external SSD for years to come.
    - External SSD's or internal wont become cheap in any near future with chip shortages and the quality of chips dropping as result.
    - If you check out the best SSD's on real-life benchmarks. This one is sharing the #1 spot with another SSD as the best the last like 5 years at this size. They seem to produce inferior SSD's nowadays based on real-life benchmarks - compared to like 5-7 years ago.
  • Have you already managed to install the new ssd?

no, not yet. Was thinking an enclosure maybe and use it as an external instead?? Maybe that’s the easiest route??

Yes, but I advise you to buy a usb 3.1 adapter:

However, it is important to note that ssd will only reach full speed when connected to the mainboard!
