I don't have battery so I can't upgrade BIOS. Any chance that this old version will recognize this CPU? BIOS date is 21.06.2010...

To close this topic. I don't know if 1.12 would recognize i7-640M but 1.26 surely does. And don't even need the unofficial "unlocked" BIOS. Works like a charm on official Acer's BIOS.

I don't see any obvious reason why it wouldn't. They didn't ship any with an i7 installed, but all other specs say they should support the Arrandale processors. I'd also be really tempted to spend the $20 or so it costs for a battery and update to the latest BIOS. Most of them just added better support for the GPUs, the some of the last ones also updates the Intel Management Engine.

Because 640M was released in Q3 2010 according to Intel Ark, BIOS is dated June 2010

Do I have to install every version from 1.12 to 1.26 one by one or just the last one?

With BIOS updates you only need the last version to be updated and to be up to date. Btw, I upgraded an Aspire 5750-2414 from its OEM i5-2410M to an i7-2860QM which is way above the highest specs of what Acer fitted to this laptop OEM and its last BIOS was intended for and it worked perfectly and never ever had any problems but, I also fitted a 2.5" SSD with 8GB 2x 4GB DDR3-1600MHz RAM and even changed the Wi-Fi 2.4G only card to a new Wi-Fi 2.4G & 5G and BT card and it worked 100% and was way up in performance to adequately handle Win-10 Pro.

I was also thinking about 4 cores (840QM), this CPU would probably give me opportunity to install 16GB of RAM (1333 instead of currently used 1066).  Unfortunately those CPUs has 10W higher TDP. It would (IMO) definetely make overheating problems and I'd possibly need new stronger PSU for stable work.

I don't know why this topic was moved from "Legacy" section. There are many older topics about even newer models of Aspires and noone cares about them for years. Why only that one was moved here?
