Predator p03-600 Upgrade questions

Hi everyone,

Looking to upgrade my cooling in my predator rig. I had the 2080 in the system but after some issues and send back they equipped me with a 3080 rtx. I'm kinda worried because of the stock 500PSU? Shouldnt I need more on the rtx 3080 card? Is there anything in particular I should be looking for in PSU's when upgrading? needs 12v single rail?

Am I nuts for wanting to upgrade the case? I was thinking of the cooler master h500 but again not sure the compatibility, I believe it fits the uATX still?

I was really interested in trying liquid cooling, an aio. One thats on sale and great reviews is MSI Mag 240mm, I was worried about how tight the machine is with a bigger cpu cooler and thought the msi mag 240mm in the new case would work great - but can i stick that unit on the CPU?

Here's the MB layout on your PO3-600:

As you can see, the processor is in a socket and replaceable. The potential issue with using a bigger case is that 'diving board' at the front of the MB. It brings the front ports out to match the stock case. If you go with a different case you will either lose those ports or have to do some really creative cabling to bring them out. Otherwise it's a pretty standard DTX form factor which uses the same mount points as uATX, so there are a plethora of cases available.

Now, for CPU compatibility... You can directly drop in any of the 9th gen that have the same TDP numbers. You have the baddest i7 already, but there is an i9 upgrade. Your TDP is 95W and both the i9-9900K and i9-9900KF match that. The i9-9900KS doesn't work without a cooling upgrade since it needs to dissipate a third again the power. You can't move up to any of the 10th, 11th or 12th gen chips without a motherboard replacement, and likely new ram as well. I'd likely do a bunch of other upgrades before stepping into a processor swap, because they typically don't give much of an overall performance increase.

The PO3-600 models use the old style ATX supplies, not the new ATX12VO. So you can easily replace the stock supply with a larger. I do see a lot of systems shipping with a 3080 and 500W though, so they must have some inkling that it works.

What temperatures are you seeing right now? If they aren't out of line (say over 90C under full load) then there's not a huge gain from upgrading cooling. If you are getting throttle with temps around 95C though, it's a good idea to get into the aftermarket coolers.

Yeah I figure they wouldn't send a 3080 with a 500 if it didn't work! Temps seem ok, full load around high 80s but need to have the front fan screaming. I got the PC on a great deal but wasn't in need of the smaller format case, its pretty crammed in there with the bays, trying to peak around in there and its very difficult to see / access without fully dismantling the unit. I liked that h500 case a little while back but didn't have enough time to learn about new builds as I had a new born, lol

Another question, Is the 9700k cpu built into the mobo? Just trying to figure out upgrade paths and theres quite a lot to look out for! If I wanted to upgrade the mobo, I would also need to buy a new cpu sort of thing?

GlitchKing the RTX 3080 does not work with the P03-600 OEM 500W PSU as the suggested PSU is the 750W PSU. The Cooler Master H500 accommodates ATX, Micro ATX, Mini ITX mobos and its Radiator Support Top, Front and Rear also accommodates the 120mm, 140mm, 200mm, 240mm, 280mm, 360mm type radiators, also all CPU water coolers have an attachment for the Intel LGA1151 socket its a very common socket.

I'm currently running my predator p03-600 oem 500w PSU with the 3080 rtx. I was very surprised when I got my computer back from repairs (I thought it was possibly a mobo issue, turned out to be the graphics card and they swapped me to a 3080).. it didn't dawn on me until recently when I was reading more into upgrades that perhaps I should be worried about my setup's longevity.

Thank you for the notes on the case! I may make the swap. Could you tell me if the cpu is integrated into the mobo? Just possibly mapping out future upgrades if I come across some great sales. EG could I change mobo and keep the 9700k and upgrade that further down the line? or is it a scenario where I need to upgrade both mobo and cpu at same time

OP, if you are planning on getting a new case, I'd go ahead and buy a new CPU and mobo as well. Your 9700K, which isn't soldered on your mobo, is getting pretty old. Maybe you can get some nice CPU and mobo combo deal on Black Friday? Maybe 11th gen Intel or AMD 5000 series?

As for a new case, I have built few PCs on Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact cases and they are good. A bit pricey, but you'll be most likely using it for years to come. Their new **** case is really good, although I have no experience about it.

Great suggestions and aligned with what I was thinking, I'll look to add more ram, mobo and cpu in the future.
