Hey I have Predator Helios 300 2019 Model with i5 9300 + 1660ti and was planning to expand my storage. I was thinking which Nvme SSD would be the best for me, I usually just game and do some game development and rendering. I was thinking between Samsung 980 or 970 evo plus or should I go for something cheaper? Any suggestions would be welcome!!

IMO get the Samsung M.2 NVMe SSD drives as they are the best, yes you pay a bit more for quality but, its worth every cent. Btw, I speak from personal experience with Samsung and all their 2.5" SSD's or their M.2 SSD's as I'm still using an 850 EVO 2.5" and this SSD I’ve used every day for the last 4 years and its performing exceptionally and speedy without any problems. As far as their NVMe M.2 SSD drives I've used the 970 Pro since their release and that was 2 to 3 years ago without any problems and these drives are reliable and very speedy also. What I find exceptional with Samsung drives is their cloning "Data Migration" software that makes cloning easy and their monitoring software "Magician" that you can automatically update the SSD drives firmware and all SSD drives performances.

Invinci0203 up to 2tb m.2 and 4tb 2.5" (2.5" drives might have more capacity by now not sure) also bare in mind if you dont do rendering works neither content creation you dont need nvme most games will run fine on a normal hdd even usb so a m.2 sata would be more than enough so its up to you to decide what are you going to use it for as you said you do rendering  so you should probably go for the samsung pro series probably the fastest you can get but if you want to save some money go for wdblue nvme should also be more than enough good luck to which ever you decide :)

Are you talking about this SSD?
Also, I already have an SSD for the rendering works, this storage will be used only for gaming and very occasionally(if the other fills up for some reason) for rendering etc. Is there no reason to buy NVME vs M2 Sata drives? And is it reverse compatible that M2 drive would go into the NVME slot?

Invinci0203 as i said you dont even need a ssd for gaming i have most of my games running from a 5tb 2.5" hdd usb 3.0/usb-c on a 10gbps enclosure and they all run fine only a hand full of games would require a ssd but yes if you really want to get another ssd for gaming either m.2 or 2.5" wdblue is reliable and fast enough also yeah thast the one i have on mine as u can see in my signature also yes nvme slots are compatible with normal sata but sata slots do not support nvme :)

As long as youre not gonna use it for rendering (would work but slower) it will always work fine just for gaming and data storage

I am sorry to bother you again, but I can get an nvme drive of same capacity for the same price , the Kingston NV1 2 TB drive on amazon. Is the slot compatible with 2 TB Nvme drive also like the 2 Tb m.2 ?

Invinci0203 yes the nvme slot its compatible with both  but the sata slot its compatible with sata only so make sure you get the correct drive for the correct free m.2 slot and yea youre right right now the nvme high capacity are cheaper than the older sata but 3 years ago my 2tb costed me almost £400 but its the normal the older the hardware the more expensive is for ex last night i was looking for 16gb 2x8gb kingston ddr3l for a toshiba satellite C50-A celeron 1005m and locally (UK) the cheapest i have found was almost £140 its just crazy from china about £40 each 8gb sodimm from the same exact model/brand lol so yeah the older it becomes the more expensive it gets but some ppl just abuse i avoid buying on amazon before i check ebay as usually ebay its way cheaper in most cases when it comes to hardware upgrades and most arent even available on amazon at all either way good luck just make sure you get the correct drive for the free slot you have :)
