Pin in socket of charger not working

Purchased in 2019 so out of warranty.  The charger is not working and called customer service to be told that it would cost $169.00 to repair.  With all the sales going on for Thanksgiving I can buy a new one at that price.  I really liked this Acer Chromebook 14 so will ask around to see if anyone has any suggestions.  From looking at the comments I can see that this is a problem with rhe Acer chromebook.

There isn't a pin in the charger plug itself, the pin is in the center of the socket  on the computer. You should be able to look in there and see the pin, and the pin should be straight. If it gets bent the plug from the charger will not fit in and it won't charge. Depending on what model you have (which is why we asked for the full model number) the socket might be replaceable for a fair amount less than the flat rate repair you were quoted.

What is your Chromebook 14's model number? And what is happening with your charger? YES I know that you say that it’s not working but, a chargers first safety is to turn itself OFF, if there is a short within the laptops charging circuitry and/or it has any power issues! So check that first with another laptop and see if the "charger has any issues and is not working" with another laptop as chargers are very reliable and very rarely go wrong.

When I called Customer Service they said that maybe a small metal part went inside the computer.  It is a small pin that goes into the charger and the pin looks fine to me. None of my chargers have the small pin that this one has. A comment was made that it was not worth it to buy a new charger as there must be something inside the opening that is blocking it from going in. I have a long ADT number on the charger just to buy a new one would be ideal but think it is a bigger problem.
