Unable to enter BIOS - Black screen with cursor - TravelMate Spin B118-RN

Member Posts: 1 New User
I have an Acer TravelMate Spin B118-RN that has encountered an issue where "Security Boot Fail" appears when I try to start up the laptop. From what I have read on other forums, I will need to enter the BIOS and disable secure boot to bypass this message. The issue I am having is that when I press the F2 key to enter the BIOS settings, all I get is a black screen with a solid cursor (underscore) in the top right and nothing else. I have tried following Acers video on using the battery reset button (press for 5 seconds and then let sit for 5 minutes) but that does not seem to have made any difference.

Did you install Linux on it? Some distributions configure grub such that there is 0 seconds available to get the F2 in and if the install's EFI image is bad it will give you the EFI shell, which provides a blinking cursor...

I have previously Installed Chrome OS Flex and it was officially supported on Google's compatibility list. but I am unable to access BIOS and get same issue. thing is i can't configure GRUB since Chrome OS is very Restrictive.
