Hello everyone,

I have a laptop of this model: Acer Aspire 3 A315-42-R2QB (NX.HH8EB.006)

Also, the motherboard label states this: EH5LP LA-H801P Rev:1B

There is 4GB RAM 1RX16 PC4-3200AA-SC0-11 on-board, and also there is an empty second slot that I want to use to upgrade my laptop.

I’ve read a lot of messages here regarding my model of laptop, but the information varies in different messages. I see no conclusion regarding how many Gb I can add into my laptop exactly. Different posts mention 16, 20 and 32 Gb maximum.

That’s why I decided to write here and request advice from community experts. Can someone please help me figure out how much more RAM Gb I can add to the Slot 2 of my laptop exactly?

Your mainboard should have two replaceable DDR4 RAM sockets one of which is 4GB. Each socket should support up to a 16GB DDR4 sodimm 2400MHz or faster for a total maximum RAM of 32GB.

The problem is, the so-called full datasheet on the official asos website states that the Maximum Memory Supported is 16 GB for my laptop. Combined with all the other answers in this forum (including yours), it confuses me.

Do you have any idea how it can possibly be explained? Does Acer limit the maximum RAM capacity at the BIOS firmware or what?

I want to understand how the whole thing works, to avoid screwing up. I am really super grateful for your reply.

Quite often the ads list the max RAM capacity for each replaceble RAM socket.

    (1) The RAM capacity according to original factory specsheet for this model show 16GB for each socket or 32GB max.
    (2) The crucial RAM update advisory  for this model also confirms the factory specsheet of 32GB max.
    (3) You can further check this by running the crucial update  scanner to see what it advises.
    (4) If all the indicators suggest 32GB max, then it probably fairly safe to conclude that this is correct. However, I still cannot  give you an absolute 100% guarantee that the full 32GB will indeed be recognized. So you'll just have to try it and see.
