Acer Nitro 5
AN515-51-5594

I5-7400
2.5 HDD 1 TB
8GB Ram
1050 video card

We bought this 2 years ago and was never used in any really heavy gaming.

Let me preface this post by saying I've seen many posts that appear to have the same issue and there is a standard response for how to troubleshoot.  I have gone through all of those steps as you will see  below.  None have worked.

When I try to power up the power comes on and fans spin, then power goes off and fans stop, then does this again 3 or 4 more times and then stops trying.  Each time the blue light also goes on and then off.  The fans stay on for about two seconds each of these times.  The monitor never comes on and the screen is black

For the first day this started happening the keyboard lights would go on and off repeatedly and a few times the acer logo did show so it looked like it was still powering up.
But that doesn't happen anymore.

Here are the things I have tried as I have read all of the simliar issues in this forum and none of the recommendations helped. (this is not listed in the order I did them)

-pulled the battery and held down power button.
-clicked the battery reset in the pinhole
-opened up the computer, removed battery, tried to run just with power adapter, tried a different power adapter, tried a different outlet in the house, tried running battery only
-checked all connections particularly the monitor and the keyboard as I know those could cause issues.
-checked ram connection, made sure ram was clean, tried othere ram port
-changed the CMOS battery
-tested that little kill switch that doesn't let you power up when the cover to the RAM is removed
-tried to get into Bios but doesn't work (can't see screen and now power doesnt's stay on)
-F2 F9 and F10 do nothing

that's about as technical as I can get.  I'm not someone that can start chasing down breaks in the motherboard with a voltmeter or able to tell if capacitors are blown etc.  I can say that everything looks fine in the computer  :)

Any help you can provide is so much appreciated.

    Hi @Bigmeh,

Is the unit battery fully charged.

yes, battery fully charged.  I tested with battery only, plug only and both.
also, recently tested a new stick of ram (removed old).  keyboard stayed lit but screen still didn't turn on.  Also, plugged the hard drive into my desk top and it opened up no problem so doesn't look like a hard drive issue either.

No it is not fixed. This is extremely disappointing and I've seen way too many posts with the same issue and no response from Acer.  A two year old computer shouldn't just ***** out.
I have tested most of the components in the computer and can only think now that it is the motherboard.  My understanding is that with shipping costs, 'diagnostic' costs and likely new motherboard it is not worth it to try and fix.  Had to spend another $1300 on a new laptop.
