Brand new Iconia B1-A71, Android 4.1.2, Kernel 3.4.0,

Build No Acer_AV051_B1-A71_1.174.00_WW_GEN1

When i try to authenticate by signing into my Google account I get "Can't establish reliable connection to the server.  This could be temporary or your Android device may not be provisioned for data services.  If it continues call Customer Care."

What exactly does "Android device may not be provisioned for data services" mean?

Pressing NEXT gives a list of local Wi-Fi hotspots, I can connect to BTWiFi (Sig strength "Good") and BTWiFi-with-FON (Sig strength "Good" or "Excellent" without any problems.  Going by the signal strength it will be connected to my BT Home Hub in the next room.  I've tried standing next to the hub - no difference.

Pressing NEXT again I get "Signing In......." and this switches to "Can't establish reliable connection to the server.  This could be temporary or your Android device may not be provisioned for data services.  If it continues call Customer Care." again.

Switching to the "Apps" menu and selecting "Browser" it invites me to log onto BT.  I select "Fon" and get "An unknown error has occured. (Code 301)"

The browser page looks like the BT website "hhtps://btwifi.portal.fon.com/remote/VNPNAME=FonBT"  but I don't know if this was got from the web or the home hub.

When I try to access an email account I get "Couldn't open connection to server"

I've been at this for about 3 hours and am getting a bit weary of it all, any help gratefully accepted!

    Update.

I've tried logging into my FON account on my PC and it won't let me.  I know I'm using the correct credentials, but this new hub is a replacement for an old router that died on me, so perhaps the new one wasn't set up for FON?

I've now resigned from FON, but I've got to wait for 48 hours for this to take effect, then I'll re-join and see what happens.

    OK - another update.

I can get around the BT website OK, such as searching for hotspots, so this proves the hardware is OK.

I now think I couldn't get beyond the FON sign-in page because BT-FON was playing up, and I can't authenticate because because Google is playing up.

It could only happen to me Man Sad

Just Googled can't establish a reliable connection to the server and got nearly 4 million hits.

Clearly there is something basically wrong here.

    Fixed it !!!!!!

Looks like it was BT all along.  Instead of using BT-FON or BT Broadband sign ins, I signed in directly to my home hub with the pass-phrase and it all seems to be working now.

I'll try BT-FON again in a couple of days.
