How can I stop my Acer Nitro 5 from freezing in games?

I have had my Nitro 5 for about a year and a half and have had no problems until a few days ago. Now, usually once a day while playing games, the whole computer will freeze randomly. I have noticed that it happens a lot whenever an animation is associated with a sound effect. For example, it has happened a lot while playing Valheim at the moment my weapon or arrow makes contact with an enemy, and then it plays a loud noise while frozen. In these cases, the only thing I am able to do is restart the laptop. I have already gone into chrome and turned of hardware acceleration and I have version 451.67 of the GeForce game ready driver. I have been trying to update to the latest driver, version 472.12 but GeForce experience keeps telling me an error occurred when I try to install it. I would really appreciate any help.
