Hey guys. I just bought an acer nitro 5 and I installed all the updates but my FPS in game is very bad. It hovers at around 80 and drops to 20 at the slightest movement. Its max is supposed to be 144hz. If anyone would know what I should do be respond. Thanks

Make sure you play while plugged in and select the high performance power plan for the best performance either from the control panel or the nitro sense application

    Hi @ISafford,

First, you are playing when not PLUGGED IN. Laptop CPUs and GPUs typically underclock when playing on battery which then gives lower performace than rated because typical battery power cannot supply the correct power to acheive maximum performance. Hence by plugging in, you are giving leeway to the CPU and GPU to use power for extra juice. (e.g. without plugging I only get around 30 fps on CSGO at max settings, but when I’m plugged in I get around 140 fps; that much of a difference)

Second, you are thermal throttling. Nitro 5 is a great budget laptop but it is infamously notorious for bad cooling. If you have bad cooling, CPUs and GPUs typically underclock to prevent anymore heat waste. For my i5–8300H, this happens when I reach temps at 95–99°C. I advise the use of cooling pads, proper ventilaton, playing in places with good ambient temperatures, undervolting (at your own risk as this removes warranty if detected by technicians), and thermal repasting (at your own risk too).
