no acer support for acer monitor? Resolution Problems

Using an acer x173w this always happens to me.  I re-install windows. it works great for about 2-3 weeks. then all of a sudden i boot my computer and the monitor is just a standard pnp monitor and runs on completely unsupported resolutions.  This happens in windows vista, windows xp and now windows 7.  This is extremely frustrating as none of the resolutions look right. its either squished one way or the other. This has happened with multiple graphics cards aswell, I do use a vga-dvi adapter but have tried 2 different ones of those now too and still the same.  I cant get my computer to recognize it and no way to contact acer for help since its not under warranty. Any suggestions?

Just wanted to also mention this monitor does not even appear on the drivers page.  The X173 is there but mine is the widescreen version (x173w).

I am extremely irritated as I have to use a much smaller resolution then the standard 1400x900.  I attempted to add a non-native resolution and add 1400x900 but the screen is too big when I do that.  I dont know what to do to get it to recognize my monitor.  It makes it very difficult to do my job as I have many programs on my screen at once.  I really dont know what to do.

    Please help me Smiley Sad

Also I wrote wrong above. Its shown as a Generic NONpnp Monitor. So I assume thats why its having the issue.  But a driver doesnt exist and I dont know how to "pick" a monitor from the list of standard ones? Is that possible?
