Hello !,
My laptop (AN515-54-58Z7) currently has 8gb of ram but im trying to upgrade it to 16gb by adding 1 stick of 8gb of ram with the same speed.
The problem is that im not abble to find the speed of the stick i already have in my pc in the taskmanager it says the speed is 2666mhz but when i run the command "wmic memorychip get speed" i get 3200mhz
so i dont know what my real ram speed is.
Could someone tell me what the ram speed is of my laptop
Thank You!

I think wmic is telling you the speed the ram is rated for, where as task manager is taking you what it is running at

Have a look at CPU z and have a look at the SPD and memory tabs, that's the best way of telling at it will tell you the current and current max speed

So you mean my ram is not set at max speed by default ? How can i set it to max speed ?

Its not possible as the max speed is based on the memory controller on the CPU, the max for the 9th gen and below chips is 2666 without XMP which non of the acer lappies support :)

Why did they put 3200 inside the pc if it can’t even run at 3200 that does not make sense

Spent hours last night trying to work out what 16GB ram i needed to buy to replace the 8GB in the AN515-57 i purchased yesterday. I must say it has been painfull and the fact my MX500 crucial 2.5 SSD failed to work with the device i'm suffering from anxiety even more that the stick i did buy would even work. I gather i will find out shortly when it arrives, but surely there must be a better and les techy way to advise on compatible ram sticks.

    @MatskosBeatz

There are limits of the motherboard or the CPU's capability of using the RAM. For your case, I think getting the 2666MHz RAM is good enough, don't need to pay extra for3000MHz. Normally manufactures will not put higher speed RAM higher than the PC will run with, as it cost more. Your case is exceptional.

A less technical way is check the Task Manger, Performance and the Memory section. Whatever shows there is what the memory is running at. Just matching the spec of the existing RAM and you will not go wrong.  If you have further questions, you may want to start a new thread buy clicking Ask A Question in the upper right corner here.

    There is,

    Download CPUz

    Install CPUz

    Open CPUz

    Go to "SPD" Tab

    Find the "Part Number"

Google the "part Number" and voila, you can get a RAM card of the same brand or you can match the specs of the existing RAM and find a new RAM that is 100% compatible
