my tablet has developed 2 white spots, about 5mm long each, on the screen. they are particularly noticeable onthe white/gray background as they are brighter than the rest.

is this something that can be fixed by software or do  i need to return it to get a replacement?

I recently just had the same thing happen to my tablet it has one white glowing spot on it. Did you do anything to fix yours? or did you send it in and get repairs done im debating if I should send mine in. Have you gotten it fixed?

I had the same issue. I only bought the Iconia W510 six weeks ago, and I noticed the spot last weekend. It's near the right corner. The staff at PC World recognised it as a fault with the product, but insisted I send it away for repair to Acer (free, of course, as it's under warranty). As a result I'm without my new tablet, and I have to go back to a dreadful old netbook I replaced.

It seems to be an isue with some IPS screens, especially on the Lenovo X220: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-IPS-display-problem-weird-bright-spot-on-the-screen/td-p/546641

It seems to be an issue with a protective/ separation layer in the screen manufacture. I'm hoping the replacement screen will be of a bettwe quality. If it happens again I'll be insisting on a refund, which is a shame because I really, really like the Iconia W510.

In short, you need to send it away for repair. When problems like this occur they'll get worse until they're fixed. It could even progress to a large blistered spot on the screen according the the technician who assessed it. Get it fixed under warranty, or see if you have more luck getting a replacement than I did. Smiley Happy

I took the tablet into PC World to repair on Monday evening, and got a call today (Thursday) to tell me it had been repaired by Acer and returned already. That's quite a quick turnaround. I've picked it up. The screen has been replaced with no fuss and the dot has gone. Hopefully it won't be coming back...
