I bought this computer to replace a Mac (about 4 months ago), because I really needed the windows OS for printing however it is the slowest computer I've ever had which does include other OS models. I've tried all the tips on youtube regarding speeding up the system but they truely do not make that much of a difference. Does anyone out there have any other hints or tips??  I did read about wiping all and adding MS back on but am thinking of that as a last resort. Thank you, Ronda

You have not mentioned what you use for storage. If you are still using old style spinning HDD, then it will be slow for sure( just checked the spec, and yes, it is 1 TB mechanical HDD).  Change the boot drive to a PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 NVMe SSD or at least replace it with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD , and then you will be happy with the performance. The original 1 TB HDD to be reformatted for data only later.

Thank you for the reply.  I'm sorry, I did not mention I have most everything on a Seagate 2T external HD

Is the PC considered slow with the 2 TB external HDD disconnected? This external HDD will be slow too because it is 5,400 RPM HDD inside.

Anyway, using SSD as boot drive is the best value upgrade for performance.

    Hi rlgngsg,

    Try this steps,
    1. Uninstall unused programs. (AP) ...
    2. Delete temporary files. Whenever you use internet Explorer all your browsing history remains in the depths of your PC. ...
    3. Install a solid state drive. ...
    4. Get more hard drive storage. ...
    5. Stop unnecessary start ups. ...
    6. Get more RAM. ...
    7. Run a disk defragment. ...
    8. Run a disk clean-up.

You still have not answered my question what you have as a boot drive? I suppose your 2TB external drive is for data only.

If the existing boot drive is a 1TB old style spinning HDD, then you should have at least an open M.2 slot for NVMe SSD. Adding the M.2 NVMe SSD will increase storage space and you can retain your data of the original HDD. Even if you do not have M.2 slot with your PC, replacing the spinning HDD with 2.5" SATA3 SSD will improve performance significantly.

Also, if you are not using third party anti-virus software and too many unnecessary startup processes, your PC should not be too slow ( using HDD will be slow for sure as I previously said).

Note that the external drive is going to, at best, run at USB speeds. That is a huge hit in performance if you have apps running off it, rather than just having it hold offline data. Also, are you still running the 'free' (90 day trial) antivirus that came with it? That's a big hit on performance and even bigger when it moves off the trial period.
