Like just browsing or pressing any apps is slow as heck and I have no idea, if this pc doesn't get any better I think I might just get rid of it

high temp can damage, but usually there is protect for that, if your cpu overheated,  laptop will shut down to prevent damage

if it only slow, usually it ssd or hdd hardware (what you have exactly?), or some software, unwanted program that use all your resources

give us your laptop specs, how old is it, did you repast thermal past, did you reinstall windows ?

    *  can you show the temperature of the cpu and gpu during idle and during games?

in most cases it's hard drive problem, so I suggest to check it, it's more then 3 years old...
    *  try to check your hdd for error -- defragment drive -- you can try HDDscan https://hddscan.com/index.html
    *  Did you install all drivers from acer support that exactly for your model ?

The problem is not uncorrectable... replace HDD with SSD or add SSD and add an additonal 8 GB RAM - your system would be zipping atleast 5x the current levels.

Problem is most games of today are created with SSD in mind, and your 8 GB RAM... almost half of it would be taken by Windows itself leaving barely any for games.
