We received a CB3-111-C670 in for battery replacement, only to find that the battery had already been removed and was missing.

The 3-cell battery part number KT.0030G.004 / AC14B18J(3ICP5/57/80) (11.4V/3220mAh/36Wh/3S1P) was the first to come up. But we’re also seeing that 4-cell battery part number KT.0040G.004 / AC14B18K(4ICP5/57/80) (15.2V/3220mAh /48Wh/4S1P) being listed for the CB3-111. Both batteries use the same plug, same number of wires, and have identical wire colour codes. They’re identical with the KT.0030G.004 having an empty section missing a Lithium Polymer cell.

So the question is:

Are the KT.0030G.004 and KT.0040G.004 interchangeable on the CB3-111-C670, with the KT.0040G.004 giving extended battery life?

Or is there only one of the batteries meant for this model, with some indicator on the motherboard to choose the correct battery?

It seems extremely odd that Acer has manufactured two physically identical batteries without some form of interchangeability.

This is the Acer specs and best performing battery and what is listed on this models FRU list by Acer for the CB3-111, so keep to these specs is what I recommend as that is what is recommended.

    Hi MaxProAndU,

May I know from where did you receive the chromebook either from the seller or acer repair center.

    A curious question.

Our client was given this Chromebook recently by a family member or friend so when elderly lady could stay in touch with people via Facebook. Before that, we have no history.

Outside of the missing battery, it had a broken charge port. The motherboard wasn't damaged, so we removed the old one and soldered on a new one. It's fairly beat up, looks like it was owned by a kid at some point.

    Why do you ask?

    Hi MaxProAndU,

Even though if you get the battery it will be hard to fix this issue. I suggest you to Contact acer tech support,

    https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service-contact

OR book the unit for repair service,

    Well,

We've already repaired the broken charge port, and the three cell battery we got today seems to be accepting the charge and the Chromebook is working adequately.

We're not sure why you're suggesting for us to contact Acer customer service. Is there something we're missing?

If it hadn't been for the interchangeability of the two batteries mentioned earlier, we wouldn't have even needed to post on the forum in the first place. And to be candid, we never got that question answered.
