How can I fix my headset problem when it's plugged in? Acer Nitro 5 515-15.

Hello everyone! I just recently purchased an Acer Nitro 5 515-15.6" and have recently encountered an audio issue when plugging in my headset. When plugged in, I can hear all audio through my headset, but my microphone input is coming from the laptop instead. This only started happening today and yesterday. Before that, my headset was working fine, and audio input was coming from the headset's mic. I've tried plugging in another headphone jack and the exact same issue occurs. When going into sound settings -> recording tab, my correct headset has been set to default, but no audio can be detected when trying to talk through it. When going to its properties and listening to the device, the input is clearly coming from the laptop's built-in microphone, as tapping on keys and clicking is loud, meanwhile tapping on the headset's mic produces no sound at all. The headset has a mute/unmute slider which I've used both ways and still no audio is coming from it. I've also tried unplugging and plugging the headphone jack back into the laptop and that has not worked either. Any help toward this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    My mistake! That makes it a little more confusing because I don't think my headset was ever recognised, as in being its own input device in the Sound Settings, even know it was working initially. But I do remember a pop-up coming up from Windows confirming that it knows I've plugged in a microphone back when I first started using it (the mic). It no longer appears anymore.
    Did you update windows by any chance, or did any update come in? I am on 1909, and when i plugged in my headset with mic, nothing popped up for me either.

    Try selecting the below for audio input and see if that helps.

    Thanks for replying! Here are my audio inputs/outputs in Device Manager and also a better look at my recording devices in Sound settings. "Microphone Array" is the headset I use. I should note that the bar next to my recording device(s) to recognise sound does not turn green when I'm talking through my headset.

    "Microphone array" refers to the mic in the laptop, not on any headset. If your headset is a USB one or such, it would show two separate devices - one for speakers and one for mic. So I am assuming you are using the headphone slot on your laptop, and not any USB headset. When you connect something to it, it should override the inbuilt speaker and mic, unless you have selected something else as default.
    Did you check under:
    PC Settings --> Sound --> Manage Sound Devices
    and
    PC Settings --> Sound --> App Volume and Device Preferences

But I do remember a pop-up coming up from Windows confirming that it knows I've plugged in a microphone back when I first started using it (the mic). It no longer appears anymore.

    Did you check under:
    PC Settings --> Sound --> Manage Sound Devices

    Even with my headset plugged in (just to confirm it is inserted through a headphone jack, not a USB cable), these are the only input and output devices that appear. It's the same with the second image from my previous post, same devices even with the headset plugged in.

    PC Settings --> Sound --> App Volume and Device Preferences

    There's nothing different showing when it comes to input/output devices here either. I'm starting to think it's possible that my microphone isn't being recognised anymore somehow. If it helps, I'll see if I can find any ways to find a confirmation that my mic is being detected when inserted.

    Same problem, pretty much.  ENABLING Stereo Mix in Sound Settings, then watching in Device Manager as a 4th line popped up, then testing in Voice Record where for the first time the microphone showed connected when I plugged in the headset to the jack.  I had tested the headset itself first (on my smartphone) where it's a no brainer... then head banged my way through the Windows 10 settings... then here.  Your last suggestion did it and thank you so much, sri369.

    I finally solved my mic issue, it's not perfect but it works.

    Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > HD Audio Manager(I have Realtek HD Audio drivers), double click on Analog button and set current device to headset. Now all the apps will use the headset's mic but it will still not show up in Playback and Recording devices. I hope somebody will find this helpful.
