Hello Everyone!

a good friend of mine owns an Acer Aspire 7 model of the type mentioned above. It has a 256GB SSD installed, which is quite full already so we were wondering what upgrad options we got. Due to the lack of knowledge/expertise of my friend and the fact that we live on the opposite sides of the country it is kinda hard to check for me, what slots are available for additional storage solutions - seems like the A715-72G series has many different specifications. I already checked the device by its serial number and got the following information of the currently installed disk:

====
Storage
Drive Type
SSD

Total Solid State Drive Capacity
256 GB

Solid State Drive Interface
Serial ATA/600

Solid State Drive Configuration
1 x 256 GB

Optical Drive Type
No
====

As it seems, its connected to the SATA port, i guess this is just a usual 2.5 inch disk. Is there an additional slot for m2 ssds available on this device? I would really like to avoid telling my friend to just open the case without having much knowledge about such things, just to check for the slots.

Thanks im Advance!

Best regards,

    It has an m.2 socket for an SSD card plus a 2.5" SSD or HDD socket. Could be either SATA card or SATA diskYou can check what is inside now by pressing WIN+R. Enter 'msinfo32'. Click storage folder in left pane. Click 'disks'. It should tell brand name and model of SSD card or disk.

    Hello JackE,

    thanks for your reply, appreciate it. Can you tell my - just in case you know - which format the m2 ssds have that fit into the slot?

    Thanks in advance!

    You should assume it's B+M keyed socket that will accept a B+M slotted m.2 SATA card unless you can see it's actually M-keyed only socket. If M-keyed only, an M-slotted m.2 NVME card (as well as the B+M slotted SATA card) will fit but might not be any faster than an m.2 SATA card. NVME's  are also notorious for being finicky to install on some mainboards.
