Hi, I have the above laptop with disc ? problems. It started one day with  can not find bootable device. The owner ( university grandson and mates) had a fiddle. I have created boot disc form my laptop and run the diagnostics and dos, disc checks but the outcome is bad..same message. It will only boot from the boot disc (bios settings ok) the bios recognises the hard drive. The toshiba disc check says ok.  I have taken off his files using a usb sata cable.

Question should I fit a new hard drive. Or is there any way to completely overwrite the entire hard drive. I have re installed windows but still no boot from hdd. Would this have been a sign of hdd failure.

Anyone have advice.  ta.

It may be possible to use the built-in recovery process if the drive is still usable.

If this does not work, and external loading of Windows does not work, you may consider service with a local Acer service center.

Since the first post formatted the drive and installed win 7. All went well and I could use windows I had to load a couple of drivers from Acer but it was fine ...until I turned it off. Then same ol message no bootable device. I have run repair boot record etc from dos.

You are quite right the Acer repair center seems the best way out. It is only 2 years old perhaps it was dropped but it looks like new.
