Why doesn't headphones work on my nitro 5

I recently bought my nitro 5 and I bought  a gaming headphones which had a 3.5 mm male connecter and when I connected it the audio was working I could hear everything but my mic wont work it uses the mic on the laptop I have tried everything that YouTube has told me but it still won't work, 
What should I do.

    Open the Realtek Audio console click on device advanced  settings in the connector re-tasking choose Headset and it should work. The only issue is that you should do that every time you want to use your headset mic.

    Have you set your privacy setting to give permission for the OS and the apps permission to use the microphone?

    I've got the same issue. The laptop (an Acer Nitro) is not recognizing the headset (Nitro Gaming Headset) as a headset. Maybe it's in the drivers, but it's a piss off.
    Here's what my Audio Console shows when the headset is plugged in, no microphone array showing at left.

    Well, I just did the manual update (optional updates) through windows which had a Realtek update (or 4) within it. This seems to have solved my problem
