Acer Spin 5 - iTunes stops playing when idle

Spotify works as expected - the screen will go blank, but the audio playing will prevent the pc going to sleep. But when I am in iTunes and possible other apps the music cuts out when pc goes to sleep. How do I stop this? I've seen multiple posts about this issue online, microsoft, apple and other, so far nothing solves it. Some of the 'solutions' mention changing the power settings for multimedia settings in advanced options but these don't seem to exist on this computer. Then apparently they are only accessible in high performance... but that doesn't seem to be on this computer either... I only have balanced and acer. Then apparently you can get this back by going to create new power setting and selecting high performance, but it is not there either! It is a brand new computer with no settings changed... what am I missing?

It's incumbent on the app developer to handle sleep modes, they should respond to a sleep request with "not now, I'm busy" instead of "OK, lets all go away". You can, of course, mitigate it by just waiting longer before sleeping by adjusting your power settings, but better is to contact the developers and ask for the change. The iTunes guys might be a little too arrogant to actually do anything, after all you aren't on a Mac, but other developers might do an update for you.

Well I posted the question in apple as well but they seemed to think that shouldn't be happening. It didn't happen on my old mac but I guess the software works better together. I've used iTunes on pc's in the past though and it's always seemed to work.

UPDATE: another issue I've noticed also now is that if the app is left on, (not necessarily playing), if it's long enough to hibernate, when I open back up iTunes won't play at all. I have to shut the programme down and open up again, which is a nuisance as I'll have to listen to the same songs in a playlist again.
