Hi everyone,  I have a A515-43-R19L laptop with a 128GB SSD.  I want to upgrade it to a 1TB SSD but don't know which brand is compatible with this model laptop.  I tried a Samsung 970 EVO PLUS NVMe M.2 but it is not being recognized in BIOS or when I try to install Windows 10.  From what I have read, Acer & Samsung don't seem to play well with each other.  Can anyone please point me in the right direction as to which 1TB SSD would be best suited for my laptop?  Thanks in advance.

The A515-43 comes OEM with PCIe Gen.3x2 8Gbits/s 3.3V ±5% 512GB M.2 and with either a KINGSTON BU-SNS8154P3/512GL or a WD SDAPNUW-512G-1014. The 1TB should work perfectly if cloned properly as in Win-10 the 2TB plus rule only applies to a non-bootable drive, as a GPT partition table is required for it to work.

First, you have to clone the 1Tb drive before you install it as it will become a GPT partition as a boot drive, the best and simplest way is to get an M.2 PCIe adaptor to USB 3.0 cable and do it externally, then use the excellent Samsung's "Data Migration" software and then take your OEM drive out and install the 1TB drive as the boot drive ONLY. Also, update the BIOS to the last BIOS titled "1. Add for support 20H2 OS.2. Update PI 1.0.0.B" dated 2020/12/25 version 1.11 so that its 100% compatible with Win-10 20H2 version and you will not have any problems.

Hi StevenGen,  Thanks for the great response.  So, if I understand you correctly, the Samsung 970 EVO PLUS should work but only after I clone it from the original drive...am I correct?  My only other question is why doesn't the BIOS, even after updating it with the most recent Acer BIOS update 1.11, recognize it as a drive since BIOS doesn't require an OS or particular formatting of the drive...would you suspect a bad drive possibly?
