Display or Display Cable? - Swift 3 (SF314-51)

Recently the display on my Swift 3 (SF314-51) start showing the occasional moving vertical lines on the display. This persisted for several weeks or even months, but was hardly noticeable. Then one night the lines got bigger and my screen would frequently "freeze" (image stayed on the screen, but wouldn't update). Sometimes the whole screen, sometimes only the bottom half of the screen. Changing the angle of the screen would sometimes fix the problem temporarily, but within about an hour the screen had stopped working entirely. I'm still able to use the laptop fine if I plug into an external monitor, so it doesn't appear to be an issue with the integrated gpu, and I believe it is a hardware issue, not a software issue. If I'm correct, this means it is either the display cable or the screen itself that have gone bad.

I've disassembled the laptop and can't see any obvious problems, but fiddling with the cable where it connects to the screen will sometimes (only infrequently, and for a brief second) temporarily bring the screen back to life. This leads me to believe that the cable is the issue, not the screen itself. Is there any way to confirm this?

If the cable is at fault, does anyone know if any other cablesis equivalent to part # 1422-02GF000 (this is the P/N printed on the cable itself)? So far I haven't been able to find it anywhere, and the closest I can find is part # 1422-02GG000. Any chance it will work?

I can't think of anything else, except maybe to test the GPU by connecting an external monitor...

Likely the cable is breaking internally. The Acer part number is: 50.VDFN5.001. Try searching on that.

Thanks. Ended up purchasing that part, which fits perfectly, but my display still doesn’t work :(  the backlight comes on (same as before) but nothing else. Anything else I should try before I bite the bullet and order a new screen?
