Acer Aspire V3-771G-9809 - very noisy fan.

Hi there, Acer Community!

I just purchased a (refurbished) Acer Aspire V3-771G-9809…took it out the box, set it up. It was quiet as a church mouth initially, however, as soon as I moved the the screen towards me, I heard a gyrating sound that isn't exactly quiet. At first I thought it was the DVD drive but deduced it is the fan. When I reclined the screen backwards, the gyrating sound stops. Move forward again, the sound comes back.

This is worrisome b/c I’ve never heard a fan gyrate like this before. I've read reviews for this model that say, “Fan isn’t super loud (even under intense use).” But I’m not doing anything intense at all, it does this when its idle. Can you please give me your opinion on this b/c I’m seriously considering returning this thing. If anyone has this model and can tell me if they hear something similar it would be greatly helpful.

Thank you in advance.

(the machine is running Windows 8)

Best guess from afar is that the fan bearings have failed and fan blades are hitting fan enclosure parts.  If that is the case you need to have the fan replaced.

Thank you Leho. I contacted Acer's Warranty department who instructed me to send it in for repairs. I considered trying to repair myself, buy that would be pointless. I'll let them deal  with it.

    Thanks again.
