Hi there!
Does the laptop's USB-C port support video output?
Model: CN315-71P
As we may read in specs: USB-C 3.1 Gen 1
I've just bought a hub capable to output on HDMI, but nope
External monitor Acer Full HD works fine on laptop's HDMI, but via USB-C and the hub does not.
Thanks in advance.

Since none of the USB ports natively support video out on your model, you need an active USB-to-video converter that essentially converts the GPU's video signal to a data stream that the USB ports can handle. Many folks have reported success with the following converters for USB data only ports that don't natively support video out. VGAs are also available. Jack E/NJ

Hi JackE, thanks for your reply.
So, for USB 3.1 gen 1 the keyword for success is "active"? (in opposite to "passive", right?)
I can't search it in descriptions of first 2 products you've mentioned.
I tried this device, which doesn't work for me. Should it be obvious that it wouldn't work?0 -
Unfortunately, "active v passive" and "converter v adapter" aren't good search keywords. Advertisements usually don't distinguish between a video converter that actively processes the gpu signal vs an adapter that simply changes the physical form of the port and processes nothing. Most USBA or USBC docking stations with multiple ports process nothing, they're simply wire pass-throughs from the laptop's USB port to the dock's ports. Price usually distinguishes between a video signal converter vs a do-nothing adapter.Accordingly, the links posted earlier describe the actual manufacturer, model number of the converter product that people have reported to work. So you have to either buy the product from the vendor/seller in the links or search for the actual product and model number as the keywords for other vendors/seller who ship to your region.Jack E/NJ

Just to chip in , anything with the brand or in the info it has "displaylink" ( https://www.displaylink.com/products ) would work
You can get "cheaper" knock offs but its luck if they work! The knock offs can usualy be indentified if the listing has something like "a driver is needed for the display to work"

Thank you for your efforts to enlighten me. However, I stay confused
What a f**kin' mess with this "STANDARD"!?
Could we assume that USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 can transfer video without any special processing?
Or there's no guaranty too?

Nope 3.1 Gen2 cant by standard, for both thunderbolt and USBc video is optional over the connection. Its more common with thunderbolt but there is no garuntee. And i know right! its the old XKCD'ism , for every standard someone thinks they can do it better, which just means more standards
Display link adapters work by acting as a sort of mini gpu and they use the data connection to drive the display, i use one on my laptop for a second portable screen1 -
I'm running an LG Ultrafine out of the USB port that also supports Thunderbolt - straight from laptop to Thunderbolt monitor. It's the port on the left side closest to the USB-A port. The other USB-C port doesn't work for display out. I'm on a ConceptD Ezel 7. On other computers I've had to use a Wacom powered hub/link to drive this Thunderbolt only display.0
