Acer M3 581T WiFi disabled - Fn+F3 doesn't work -Win 8

I'm having a lot of trouble with my M3 581T Wifi. It stopped working yesterday, I suppose I hit the Fn+F3 accidentally while I was trying to put it to sleep (Fn+F4). I've not been able to turn it back on.

Here's the case and what I've tried so far:

- No network connection. WLAN is disabled. When go to the Win8 Wifi settings, the WLAN switch is grey, and cannot be used. Airplane mode is off, that switch works fine.

- Fn+F3 is not working. All other function keys are OK.

- I've booted the laptop several times

- I've turned the WLAN on and off several times

- Upgraded the Atheros WLAN card driver, removed the driver, reinstalled it, removed it again, removed the WLAN card, reinstalled the card, reinstalled the driver. No luck. The card itself seems OK, somehow the Acer hardware has just disabled it.

- There's no physical radio on/off switch on the machine. No luck with the crappy BIOS settings either.

Can someone please help? I'm running out of ideas. I'd rather not do a clean install, if that can be avoided. Is there a way to force the Wifi back on?

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately I already have the latest BIOS version, so update is of no use. Going back to Win 7 doesn't sound too great either, maybe as a last resort. Does Acer really suck this bad, or is it the Win 8? Never had this much issues with Lenovo.

EDIT: Resetting the BIOS (Loading optimal defaults) seemed the fix it. So this is resolved.
