I made the mistake of using Acer Empowering technology eRecovery backup. I Started to make a backup but decided it would take too long so tried to stop the process. I clicked the red X but it keeps on running.

Why can't I stop this process?  Given that some backups will take hours to run this program is hijacking my computer.

Try clicking on the "cancel" tab...then you ought to see a message that will state the program is being cancelled...clicking the red X will just exit the page as the internal program is already running.

Nope. Clicked cancel numerous times over the 2+ hours the Acer program was running but could never stop this program from hi-jacking my computer.

I am working with 3rd party software to do backups as other programs are more reliable. Am also working to make the files on the "hidden" partition available to use, since "Recovery" does not work as advertised by Acer.

Once I finish, I will be posting instructions so others who no longer "exist" as far as Acer is concerned (warranty expired) will be able to recover and re-set their Extensa to original defaults or better yet to actually recover their PC to full functionality.

I can now "read the "Hidden" partition and am assembling a DVD with files so others who have lost functionality of recovery will be able to replace the corrupt files on their ACER brand PC.

It was the lack of support from Acer that has pushed me this far but once I learned the trick of managing the hidden partition I see no reason not to make those files and knowledge available to others who have been cut adrift by acer support.

Will probably offer this recovery DVD for cost + S&H on eBay.
