w510 dock charging issue

Hello there,

I have updated the new 2.11 driver and it solved the stand by battery drain problem, now I get good battery life even I put my w510 into stand by mode. But now my dock no longer charge the tablet when it is plugged in, though in terms of keyboard function it works perfectly fine..(except the double key issue which I have since day 1) Does anyone have the same problem like me or is it just me? I really need the dock to charge my tablet as a back up battery ......

Thank you Acer community.

I have not heard of the issue you are describing where the dock battery stops charging after loading the new drivers. You may try posting this to the other thread that has current discussion on the topic. I suggest posting your question here:

Sorry about that, but it's not a battery drain issue.

I've exactly the same problem (dock doesn't charge tablet) just after 2.11 update.

    For exemple:

    - before: dock 100% and tablet 40% - association - one hour after: dock 50% and tablet 80% Smiley Happy

    - now: dock 100% and tablet 40% - association - one hour after: dock 90% and tablet 40% Smiley Mad

    Any idea?

I apologize. When I initially read the post I thought it was related to the other thread.

I have recovered my Iconia W510 to factory settings, and updated to the 2.11 driver package. I am in the process of depleting the battery on the device, so I can attempt to duplicate the charging problem you are reporting. Any additional information for our testing is always welcome. I will report my findings in a future post.

Wait...this is new to me, if the dock charges, no wonder theres a battery drain issue to the dock when connected to the tablet, its so logical because the battery is drained by the tablet itself.

if the dock stops charging the tablet, only providing power, off course there wont be any battery drain to the dock.

    am I missing something here?

Sorry to tell you that, but... yes, you've missing something.

    Nobody speaks about battery drain.

Before update, if the tablet had less % battery than dock (when both were unplugged), this one charged the tablet (when both were plugged).

It's a necessary fonction for all hybrids with dock battery.

    Regards.

Philman, thats not what i meant,
    Its logical for those conditions:
    1. Before update: dock charging tablet because dock % decreases while tablet battery % increases
    2. After update: dock not charging tablet (only as backup battery) because dock % stays the same while tablet % decreases, and when tablet % zeroed out, dock battery kicks in

Thats logical right? Or am I still missing something again?

So the issue here is whether u want your dock charge the tablet or just as a backup battery? Correct?

Acer has made the new driver to address the battery drain issue of the dock and it hits the mark however it also raises another issue because the dock cannot charge the battery.

All hybrids (with dock battery) have this fonction: the dock must charge the tablet because you can work (or play!) without the dock, but without a tablet your dock is only a dead keyboard... Smiley Wink

I don't need a backup battery: AC plug is more compact Smiley Happy

I have attempted to duplicate the charging issues that were reported, but have been unable to duplicate the issue that was reported. I have used the tablet battery until it was depleted below 50 percent, placed it on the dock, and it charges with no problems. Am I missing something? Can you provide additional steps for me to try, so I can more accurately duplicate the issue.

    Thanks for answer and test.

I've done the same but always the same issue: dock doesn't charge the tablet.

All update done: drivers 2.11, wifi driver .113, BIOS 1.92, firmware A32. Battery setting in normal use and quick start disabled.

Maybe it's coming from a ghost setting!

For now in work, without AC plug, value of the tablet don't decrease and only dock battery is in use.

We have looked into the issue reported, and have not been able to duplicate the problem that was described. I have confirmed with our product development team the following information that may help clear up confusion.

    1. The battery in the dock is not designed to charge the tablet when the system is unplugged, regardless of what driver package is loaded.
    2. The dock battery should act as a backup battery during unplugged use, and should completely discharge, before the tablet battery begins to discharge. Please see the discharging conditions listed below:
      • When tablet battery is greater than 1% and dock battery is greater than 1%, the dock battery will discharge
      • When tablet battery is greater than 1% and dock battery is less than 1%, the tablet battery will discharge
      • When tablet battery is less than 1% and dock battery is greater than 1%, the dock battery will discharge
      • When tablet battery is less than 1% and dock battery is less than 1%, the dock battery will discharge

I hope this information is helpful, and will gladly look into any feedback that you provide.

    Thanks.

URGENT: sell Acer W510 with the worst dock ever seen (battery drain, no tablet charge, crazy pad...). Make offers to Acer before I leave them for any other brand.

    @Acer-Blayn,
Before the firmware update, when the tablet battery is 50% and dock battery 100%, when docked, the tablet will be charged so it will be 100% and dock battery decrease down to 0% if the system is not in use, hence the "battery drain issue of the dock".

I thought after the firmware update, this should have happen:
When tablet is 50% and dock is 100% and then Tablet is docked, dock should immediately charged until tablet becomes 100% again and dock battery 50% and the dock automatically stops charging because the system was off. I think this is what philman and many other users want.

Instead, what really happens as per your description, the dock ONLY acts as a backup battery and stops charging the tablet.

I dont know what the initial design is for the w5 series but I do know on hp envy the dock charges the tablet.

Asus too (Android & Windows 8/RT).

Thanks for your perfect explanation, but not sure that Acer recognize/change the problem.

Updates adjust some bad issues but add some others. I don't understand how they work...

I just bought this Tablet, and on purchase the dock would charge the tablet when the tablet wasnt at 100%! I recently updated the drivers (2.12) and now the dock only works as a backup battery, and discharges instead of the tablet when docked. I should say that i updated to Windows 8.1 preview. So im not sure if this could cause any problems.

Anyway, i just wanted to acknowledge that i too have this problem after updating to the recent driverpack, and i hope Acer will fix this as soon as possible!

Is hard to troubleshoot since I do not have a dock but try this: Open Control Panel>Device Manager and see if there are three entries with the dock conected and the ac charger charging, one for each battery and another for the charger.

Yeah all the devices are there.. Its all genereic Windows devices (maybe because im running stock 8.1), but there are 2 batteries and an AC adapter. I think this actully is a fix from Acer, trying to contain the dock battery draining, by only letting it act as a backup battery.. which is kinda sad, the charge feature was awsome.

May have been a safety issue. Have heard of  the case getting quite hot (excessive current) if the dock battery was full and the device battery was drained.
