Hope this is the right part of these forums...
Has anyone heard of this before. I (STUPIDLY) decided that my fan needed a good clean and in a moment of madness I took the heat sink off and cleaned it, I had no paste to renew with at the time but thought it would be ok.
Acer Aspire 5738Z Dedicated ATI Graphics Intel Core 2 Duo
I missed the fan plug when I re assembled the laptop and naturally it would not start. So after getting the cleaners and paste and PLUGGING the fan back in, I tried booting again..... Nothing doing apart from the fan runs and stops, then comes back on - the power light illuminates - the processor light comes on for a second - and the cd tried to run.
I did all the usual tricks like removing the Ram etc Hold power button and so on..... still no joy
So I stripped the motherboard out of the case and took everything off, I replaced the following only
HDD
1 x 2GB Ram
Monitor
Battery
And success It booted without a problem
I then tried restarts and they were fine so I put it all back together and nothing happened?.......
So I stripped it again and this time I connected everything
HDD
2 x 2GB Ram
CD/DVD
Monitor
Battery
WiFi
USB Mouse
USB Keyboard
Started it and again with no problems it started and rebooted endless times. So I removed all and placed into the base of the case and then reconnected it all and got the same good boot. I then placed the top section of the base on while it was running and it was fine, then I rebuilt around the running laptop until the unit was whole again... Still stayed running. Although my mouse pad wasn't working nor was the keyboard
Ok moment of truth.... Restart...... or rather not - back to the beginning with no boot
Does anyone have any clue as to the cause - I am wondering if the keyboard and or mouse may be at fault but for all I know it could be more sinister.
Any help would be fantastic - But please no suggestions of removing the ram and pressing the power button down as my finger aches from trying this lol
