Defective Recovery CD ?

Luckily I bought a set of recovery CDs a while ago. However since my Extensa is out of warranty it appears so are the Recovery CDs which were purchased separately from the notebook.

The computer was acting up and I wanted to do a clean full install and reset to factory.

In the set of CDs I bought directly from Acer Store, I have two CDs labeled System Recovery #1 & #2

I have three other CDs Two labeled Recovery Disk #1 & #2 and one CD lableled "Recovery CD 1 of 1"

Following instructions received with the set of CDs. I boot from Sys #1 and after starting it asks for "Recovery CD" About 74% of the data is transfered and I am instructed to "insert Next CD".

I have tried Recovery CD#2 of 2 and Recovery CD 1 of 1 and both System Disks but none of the CDs allow the recovery process to finish.

I am now worse off than before as I don't even have a partially functioning computer. The instructions and CDs I bought from Acer have trashed my hard drive.

Any suggestions?

Recovery media does not expire. Even if you are out of warranty your recovery media will still work. If you were having issues before and the disks didn't work it's more likely that something is physically wrong with your unit. RCD media cannot trash a hard drive, they can wipe it however. If you had a working unit you didn't need to buy CD's as you can burn them directly from your unit using the Acer eRecovery Management tool. If you did have to buy them Acer gives you 14 days to make sure they're working during which time they will replace them free of charge. At this point you can either get more RCD's or you can try swapping your HDD if you're convinced that it is defective. Sorry for the bad news, but take care and good luck.

Problem was the software on the HDD not the drive itself. It appears the Recovery CDs are history. I used them in 2010 and have had them stored since then but bad labeling from Acer makes it more difficult as no CD is identified as "Next CD".

I wanted to do a clean install to solve a number of minor issues with Windows. My bad.

I did find the backup recovery CDs I made in 2010 and have been able to get the computer running. Now I have a new problem as for some reason the Network drivers do not work. I will start new thread on that problem.

Through lots of Trial & Error plus 3rd party web site info, I was able to get the Extenza running. I have however confirmed that the instructions provided by Acer for the recovery process are misleading at best or just outright wrong at worst. The instructions say insert "next disk" but don't tell you which of the 5 disks you have is the "next disk". Since you have to insert the "next disk" a number of times there are a lot of possible combinations.

I have a Recovery CD P/N OP.AHB00.002 which is rejected by eRecovery. This disk is labeled "Recovery Disk 1 of 1" anyone know what this disk really is for? It was part of the recovery disk set I paid for and I want to know what I got for the $60 I paid. Acer of course has my money so has no interest in answering any questions.
