Aspire M3985 desktop problems

Hi,

I recently bought an M3985 aspire desktop pc and have come across two major problems.
Firstly, I have installed a dual output pci express video card so I can use two monitors. Having done this, it is impossible to see the post screen, bios or boot menu unless I open the PC to remove the card and connect the monitor to the on board video adapter. Surely this can't be right? I've used this card with several other PC's POST screen is always visible though the cards output.

The second issue is that the system will not boot from the DVD drive. I've removed my pci video card and connected the monitor to the on board video output, just so that I can actually SEE the bios screen and made sure the boot order is correct, but it simply refuses to detect and boot from a bootable cd or dvd. Even if I invoke the boot option menu with f12, the DVD drive is not listed. I've even tried moving it to other sata ports on the motherboard but it just refuses to boot from DVD. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions before I take this PC back to the shop? Thanks.

does not sound right for either item

definately should be able to see POST screens from installed video card

    optical drive should be bootable

contact Acer service to see if there is something they can do?
