My hard disk contains 4 existing partitions. I was hoping to split the large c: drive into 2 to create a data drive, and hoping that win8 would not have the 4 partition limit.

The first 2 partitions are about 400mb each. can anyone explain why there are 2 and can I lose one of them or amalgamate.

Ideally I want to split c to make a data drive, existing d drive is 18g of recovery.

Then ideally I would like to make the laptop dual boot with win7;. If anyone has info please share, especially if it is impossible.

thank you all.

Go into Computer Management and look at the Disk Management tool, what does it show each drive as?

    Example:

    400MB Healthy (Recovery partition)

    100MB Healthy (EFI System partition)

    11.72 GB Healthy (Recovery partition)

106.91 GB Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)
