Can only start in save mode

This will keep you awake:  Bought my Acer LT new in 2009 running Win 7 Home 32and 64 bit and worked perfectly until I hooked into my son's Wifi network and upon returning home can only start in safe mode and it says I am running Vista (which is what my son has).  Got the black screen and the blue screen and can only boot in safe mode.  The puzzling issue is that when I got home I have extension speakers pluged into the LT and I was hearing AM/FM radio broadcast's, but the sound from PC was inoperative,and has a red X over the speaker icon on task bar which can not be changed.  I have all three installation disc's and would like to reinstall but doing so will loose all my pictures and other info for the past 4 years.   Any suggestions?????????

then do recovery
